SIMS 2000: Space Needs Module

The space needs module is linked to the space inventory and calculates the amount of space a department can justify based on current personnel by type, enrollments, research activity and instructional activity using generally accepted space planning guidelines modified to reflect any guidelines the college or university may currently be using. The calculated space is compared to the current space inventory to determine space surplus or deficit by space type.

  • All variables (personnel, enrollments, research activity, etc.) can be modified to determine the impact on space of various strategic decisions. For example, what would be the impact of increasing graduate enrollment by 10% over the next 5 years?

  • Since the space needs is linked to the space inventory, "What if's" involving changes to the space inventory can also be modeled.
